1. Has the first day of school changed?
The first day of school is September 8th as scheduled.
2. Has the school day schedule changed?
We will maintain our 9:30-2:30 time frame. Children will still rotate to their specials classes. There will be no Daily Depot in September and we’ll re-evaluate in October. Celebration of birthdays and Kids of Character will still occur in our monthly Chapel meeting in the worship center.
3. If Owasso Public Schools goes virtual, what will GCK do?
GCK will not go virtual. BUT, if OPS goes virtual, we will make accommodations so that we can still open our doors on September 8th.
4. If I choose to withdraw my child what is the policy?
The policy remains the same as the enrollment packet which states:
“Once officially enrolled, your child has a spot saved for the entire school year. Please know that if you pull your child out of the program before the end of the school year, you are still expected to pay tuition for the month that you are currently attending.
5. What steps will GCK take to keep school as safe as possible?
GCK will make every effort to promote healthy practices, so we will implement habits of even MORE hand-washing and hand-sanitizing. The teachers will clean/sanitize daily and social distancing will be practiced as best as we can. Masks are not mandatory as it is impossible for preschoolers to keep them on and for our teachers to effectively teach them.
6. What steps can families take to keep school as safe as possible?
We ask that parents check their children’s health status at home EVERY morning. Please use the self-check list below.
By sending your child to school, you are representing to GCK that the answer to each of these questions is “NO”.
1. Does your child have a fever of 100 degrees or more?
2. Is your child experiencing a new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea?
3. Is your child experiencing two or more of the following symptoms of COVID-19?
○ Chills
○ Cough
○ Fatigue
○ Muscle or body aches
○ Headache
○ Sore throat
○ Congestion or runny nose (related to sickness, not than allergies)
4. Is your child experiencing ANY of the Emergency Warning Symptoms of COVID-19?
○ Shortness of breath
○ Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
○ New confusion
○ Inability to wake or stay awake
○ Bluish lips or face
5. Has your child had or do you think your child has COVID-19?
6. Has your child tested positive for COVID-19?
7. Has your child been around a person with COVID-19?
7. Will students have their temperature taken each day?
No. Parents checking temperatures at home is more practical and (with parents’ help) children will not come to school if they are running a fever.
8. Will parents be notified if their child has come in direct physical contact or close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
Yes, if your child has been in direct physical contact or close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, parents will be notified. GCK will respect the confidentiality of health information, but notifying parents of a possible exposure is a priority. We will follow the guidelines and advisement of Central Baptist Church.
9. Will parents be notified if anyone in the school has been tested positive for COVID-19?
No. Parents will be notified if their child has come in direct physical contact or close contact with someone who has tested positive, but parents will not be notified if there is no direct physical contact or close contact with a person testing positive.
10. If my child is sent home with a fever, when can they return?
Any time a child is out with a fever or any other COVID-19 symptom; they are out for the remainder of that week.
11. Should a parent notify the school if their child or someone in their family tests positive for COVID-19?
It is not required, but it would be helpful as it would be with any communicable disease such as the flu.
12. If my child has to stay home from GCK because of testing positive, will we have to pay for the time he/she is quarantined?
Yes, just like if they have the flu or another illness, or are on vacation.
No.
14. Will wearing face coverings/masks be mandatory for GCK staff?
No.
15. Will “Meet the Teacher” still occur on Thursday, September 3rd from 6:30-7:30PM?
Yes, but it will look a little different from years past. From 6:00-6:45, we are asking that Babies, 3s and 4s classes meet in the sanctuary for a brief meeting with Ms Jana and then go to their classes.
From 7:00-7:45, we are asking that 1s and 2s classes do the same.
If you have children in both levels, just pick one of the time frames to attend. The meeting at both time frames will be the same and our teachers will be in their classrooms the entire time waiting to meet you and your child.
We ask that you keep family members to a minimum for Meet the Teacher night. Two adults per family and the preschooler only, if you’re able.
16. Will I still walk my children in/out of GCK each school day?
Yes. However, the main outside doors WILL NOT be open until 9:30 to enter the building each morning to avoid congregating in the lobby. Please remain in your car till the doors are unlocked. We will show a detailed plan for morning drop off on Meet The Teacher Night. Pick-up will remain through the main doors at the end of the day or for early pick-up because the main entrance has the doorbell and camera.
17. Will Daily Depot continue to be a part of the morning procedures?
Daily Depot will be postponed. At this time, there will be no Depot during September but we will re-assess that decision the first of October.
18. How will parents receive updates and information throughout the school year?
GCK will communicate through REMIND101 (code will be given at Meet the Teacher Night) and the Grand Central Kids Facebook page. Newsletters go home each month, as well.
19. How will snacks be handled?
The same as years past, but NO home-baked goods please… store-bought only. Your child’s teacher will communicate their snack procedure the first week of school.
20. Will we be able to celebrate our child’s birthday by bringing snacks?
Yes, store bought.
